Homework 5

There are a ton of great movie posters out there but one that comes to mind is World War Z. Right away the poster engages the viewer. Striking contrast between the black and white space. There's a beauty in its simplicity. Whether one has watched the film or not, we can agree that upon a glance the poster depicts an action scene. A helicopter hangs in the air. People are falling. There is a giant pile up of people. One can imagine that there is some kind of apopcalyptic theme. That's essentially what the movie is about. The poster did its job to communicate that message to the viewer- all through one image. To me, that's a successful design. Now whether the movie was awesome or not is another topic. 

Response to: Making ‘The Master' with Poster Artist Dustin Stanton

The interview with graphic design and creative director, Dustin Stanton, was a good read. It was interesting to go behind the scene and see the interworking of how these designs come to live. Also,  it was neat to get a glimpse of Stanton's career and growth as an artist. Reading about Stanton's journey makes me yearn to start my own. I can't wait to begin my career and work on different projects. I feel that each project is a learning experience, new material to research and potentially new people to meet along the way of bringing your vision/project to life.

Stanton mentioned that all this came about because an opportunity has fallen into his lap. Maybe it was meant to be for him and so it did. As for me, I've to found my way here, took me a full circle but as they say better late than never. Sometimes you need to circle back to realized that's where you belong the whole time.

Homework 3

This article was a fantastic read! The interview format made it interesting to follow and I thoroughly enjoy getting to know Dave Perillo. I felt very inspired as I was learning about how Perillo and how he got into art and his journey. The biggest takeaway for me is when he said,

"It's great to be influenced by other artists, but it's important to make your own stuff unique and stand out from the others."

This is the most important line in this article for me because I'm just beginning to discover my own sense of style. I'm not sure what motivates me or what my style is yet, I'm hoping to find it soon so i can fine tune it.
